Data Engineering ETL Migration from IPC to IICS (2022 – 2023)
The project scope involved the replacement of Informatica PowerCenter (IIPC) with Informatica Cloud (IICS), necessitating a comprehensive migration of the entire ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) code base from the legacy Informatica PC platform to the modernized IICS environment. This migration aimed to leverage cloud-based capabilities for enhanced scalability, agility, and integration capabilities, ensuring seamless data processing and management across the organization’s data ecosystem.
Business Problem
- Informatica PowerCenter (IIPC) incurred higher costs for maintenance, including resources and licenses, which strained budget allocations and operational efficiency.
- The on-premise limitation of Informatica PowerCenter restricted its compatibility with various data sources and target systems, hindering seamless integration and data processing capabilities.
- There was a pressing need to modernize the ETL infrastructure to leverage cloud-based solutions like Informatica Cloud (IICS), enhancing scalability, agility, and compatibility with diverse data environments and business requirements.
Value Delivered
- Nearly 60% of the ETL code base was successfully migrated from Informatica PowerCenter (PC) to Informatica Cloud (IICS) and is already operational. This milestone ensures continuity of data integration processes and minimizes disruptions during the transition phase.
- Due to Informatica Cloud (IICS) closely following PowerCenter’s template in terms of look and architecture, the existing team required minimal effort and time for cross-skilling. This alignment facilitated a smooth transition, allowing team members to leverage their existing skills while adapting to the cloud-based environment.
- The migration to IICS enhances operational efficiency by leveraging its cloud-native capabilities for improved scalability, performance, and integration flexibility. This transition supports future growth and ensures alignment with modern data management practices, contributing to overall business agility and competitiveness.
