Data Engineering Oracle Warehouse Builder to Informatika (2022)
The project scope involved the migration from the legacy Oracle data load tool to Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS). This migration aimed to modernize data integration processes, leveraging IICS’s cloud-based capabilities for enhanced scalability, efficiency, and integration with diverse data sources and applications across the organization.
Business Problem
- The Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) data load process required more than 24 hours to complete, leading to delays and inconsistencies in data availability for business users, impacting decision-making and operational efficiency.
- OWB had reached end-of-life status with Oracle, meaning support and updates were discontinued, posing risks related to security vulnerabilities, compatibility issues, and regulatory compliance.
- There was a critical need to replace OWB with a contemporary data integration tool like Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS) to improve data processing speed, reliability, and alignment with current and future business requirements.
Value Delivered
- The migration from Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) to Informatica significantly reduced EDW data load times from 14 hours to just 2 hours. This enhancement in efficiency allowed for quicker data availability, enabling faster decision-making and improving overall operational productivity.
- By transitioning away from OWB, the university addressed concerns related to product support. With OWB reaching end-of-life and Oracle’s impending discontinuation of support, migrating to Informatica ensured continued access to reliable support, updates, and security patches, reducing risks associated with using an unsupported platform.
- The adoption of Informatica provided enhanced data integration capabilities, facilitating seamless connectivity with various data sources and applications. This modernization initiative supported the university in adapting to evolving data management practices, enhancing data quality, and meeting regulatory requirements more effectively.
